SolanoCGS - Border—What Border? Our Ancestors Who Called Both Canada and the USA Home  (Speaker Series)
11:00 am
ZOOM Presentation
The Solano County Genealogical Society will host a virtual Speaker Series presentation via Zoom on Saturday, October 5, 2024 starting at 11 a.m. Pacific Time

Annette Burke Lyttle will be doing a presentation on “Border—What Border? Our Ancestors Who Called Both Canada and the USA Home”.

With all the talk about immigration across our border with Mexico, it’s easy to forget that the United States also has a long border and a long immigration/emigration history with our neighbor to the north.

The United States began recording the entry of Canadians along its northern border only in 1894—and movement from the United States to Canada was unrestricted and unrecorded until April 1908. Before that, many thousands of people lived cross-border lives, with no requirements for visas, work permits, passports, or immigration records. Learn how to find these elusive ancestors.

Annette Burke Lyttle, Certified Genealogist, owns Heritage Detective, LLC, providing professional genealogical services in research, education, and writing. Annette speaks on a variety of genealogical topics at the international, national, state, and local levels and loves helping people uncover and share their family stories. She is a course coordinator for the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy and the British Institute. She is also a published writer whose research interests include Quaker ancestors and ancestral migrations in the United States. Annette is past president of the Association of Professional Genealogists and editor of The Florida Genealogist.

A popular speaker with our members, Annette presented “Your Quaker Ancestors: Their History and the Records They Left” in 2021 and “Timelines” A Path to Your Next Research Steps” in 2023.
